First, if you've lost someone recently, I want to share my deepest sympathies with you and your family.
There are few things harder than losing a loved one. I've lost three grandparents in the last five years. Each experience was a different kind of pain. I spent my summers growing up with my grandparents, and losing them was like losing a piece of my soul. I will forever be altered by their deaths, but eternally grateful for the time we shared. Everyone's grieving experience will be different and that is ok.
When my grandpa died unexpectedly, there was an overwhelming feeling of emptiness. I always thought I would cry, but it took time. Looking back, it wasn’t just the shock of his death, it was also the full weight of managing every task that comes at the end of life. My experiences have inspired me to share what I’ve learned: how to prepare, and how to follow a clear process for managing every task.
Lastly, be kind to yourself. If you’re overwhelmed, that’s ok. Aim for “next right step,” not perfection.
